EAA elects new chairman

rudi-huber-picThe European Aluminium Association is pleased to announce the election of Rudolph P. (Rudi) Huber as the new EAA Chairman. Mr. Huber succeeds Mrs Christel Bories who has successfully led the organisation for the past two years. Rudi Huber, President of Alcoas European Region and Vice President, Alcoa Inc., will take on his role as Chairman of the EAA as of January 1st, 2009 and will hold the position for two years.

EU Parliament’s Environment Committee vote threatens Europe’s aluminium industry

 

A key part of the EUs climate change policy the Emission Trading System (ETS) could destroy the economic viability of Europes aluminium industry. The European Parliaments Environment Committee recognised the impact of CO2 costs passed into electricity prices (indirect effects) as one of the criteria for carbon leakage, as it has a large negative effect on the competitiveness of energy intensive industries. Therefore, it is inexplicable that the Committee failed to adopt provisions for a legal mechanism to address this problem.
